Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope, it’s that Brit Henry Cavill!
It’s about time I mention something from the other comic brand DC comics rather than Marvel for once, although it’s well known that I’m team Marvel.
There’s yet again another Superman movie in the works after what was dubbed as a disaster, Superman Returns (even though Kevin Spacey was a great Lex Luthor). So the deal is basically, we have a new, refirbished, and might I add British, Superman under the name of Henry Cavill. Warner Bros. have now released the first pictures of the man of steel looking quite like a super hero.
Although I’m kind of bored with the franchise, because Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman (quite like Tobey Maguire and Spiderman) and the fact that I always thought John Barrowman would make a great Superman, this new version has blown out all the stops to drag along a few big names. Amy Adams as Louis Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent (Superman’s adopted parents), Michael Shannon as the evil Zod (perfect fit) and now recently added to the line up, which has caused a stir because of skin colour, Laurence Fishburn as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. White was originally played by the late Jackie Cooper in the 1978 Superman. It reminds me of when they cast Denzel Washington as Don Pedro in Kenneth Branagh’s take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, because they couldn’t find the right “white” actor for the part.
In other news, it’s rumoured that another huge name could be joining the crew. Gladiator star Russel Crowe could be joining as Superman’s biological father Jor-El originally played by Godfather Marlon Brando.
Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder and produced by The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan is due for 2013 release.
