So it’s been a few days since the San Diego Comic-Con adventure had closed, but it must be said, what a tremendous line up it consisted of this year. It was mind blowingly awesome, keeping up to date with the goings on through Twitter as they happened, not to mention the amount of internet traffic caused when one certain future release was revealed, leaving thousands applauding at the exhibition, but leaving the world with their jaws hitting the floor.

Before getting to the big news that seemed to have knocked everyone sideways, let’s take a little look and some of the other stuff that went on…

The Avengers, Phase 2

The Avengers (part deux) has finally got a name… The Avengers: Age of Ultron. How long has Kevin Feige known about this? Who knows! But we now have a name, Houston… we now have a name. Though recycling the same name, Joss Whedon confirmed that it’s not based on the recent comic. The Avengers: Age of Ultron will also feature (as far as we know) two new characters, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. It was also revealed that Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) would have a bigger role this time around… Yes!

Villain wise, Ultron will be the main villain with the script surrounding more of an origin story for the big robot; however it won’t be following the original origin story toe to toe. Marvel mentioned that although it was Hank Pym, a.k.a Ant Man (who will be the first movie for phase 3) that created the robot, they wanted it to come more from the Avengers. All of this excitement is due to be released 2015.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Due to be released May 2014, 20th Century Fox has released two very interesting posters for the film. One featuring the old and young professor Xavier (Stewart and McAvoy) and the other showcase the old and young version of Magneto (McKellen and Fassbender). Disguised yet separated by the huge ‘X’, it’s a lovely poster and was brought together well. If you didn’t see it before, now is the time you’ll really see the resemblance between the actors.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Kicking in another Marvel title, Guardians of the Galaxy definitely kicked it up a notch by building quite a huge cast for the film. In a sense competing with The Avengers (even though Marvel are great a picking cast members) this line up involves Chris Pratt (playing Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Benicio Del Toro (the Collector), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Djimon Hounsou (Korath the Pursuer) and Michael Rooker (Yondu). Also recently confirmed as playing the Nova Prime Police Force is Glenn Close. John C. Reilly is also apparently up for the role of Rhomann Dey. Take a moment to breathe and process all of this in. Huge isn’t it? Hold on to your hat, The Guardians are due to be released August 2014.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Finally we have an official trailer for the anticipated sequel to The Hungers Games. Some of the cast came out at Comic Con to introduce the trailer, mentioning it was the first time they were also watching it (so yeah they were part of the audience, hurrah!) This trailer is absolutely amazing, a really great trailer! Plus this sequel looks flaming epic! (Did you see what I did there… girl on fire? No? Oh never mind) To be released November 22nd this year, here is the official trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Another sequel and another release for 2014 (it’s going to be a big year) with another teaser to stick us in a frenzy. The story will revolve around an older Caesar, approximately 10 years later who now has a wife and kids. A group of human survivors suddenly show up, but how will the ape community react to this “revelation” (bearing in mind the outbreak at the end of Rise). Here is a teaser photo of the older yet wiser Caesar…

Man of Steel 2 (or should we say BATman of Steel?)

Yes! You heard correctly! The Man of Steel sequel will be featuring Batman who will also be his rival and YES, they will have a face off. The best part about this news is that it’s not a two way film. It’s literally Superman’s film and Batman is in it. Henry Cavill will be reprising his role as The Man of Steel but as Christian Bale “bailed” out of the Bat suit after The Dark Knight Rises, who’ll be up next to play the caped crusader?

It was also announced that the film will be released in 2015, followed eventually but The Justice League film and a Flash film (I do have a thing for Bradley Cooper playing the Flash). The rumor is the sequel will be called Batman vs. Superman, but it’s not confirmed just yet.

To conclude the tiny yet huge comic con round up, here is the teaser to tickle your fancy…
